In the Public Eye [a mandatory garment]
Hybrid media
2011
In the Public Eye is a reflection on mandatory Islamic veils. Shifts in historic landscapes can be seen through the additions of contemporary machinery literally and metaphorically excavating the earth and upheaving the region's culture. In this artwork, traditional icons and contemporary tools are combined in geometric patterns referencing Persian art and architecture. These designs are then transferred onto a head scarf using an embroidery machine.
